Get the proper drivers from the place you got your PC from.

Re: cannot install realtek al888 on new pc with winxp

Hi,

From what I've read you must install the UAA Driver first then your Realtek
al888 audio drivers.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

A quote from a user who describes how to install them...

{{{Inside you should see a folder called "MSHDQFE". Within that folder you
will see 2 more folders: 1 for Windows 2003, the other for Win2k/XP. Now,
here's where it gets tricky. There are 2 XP files further in: one for SP1,
and one for SP2. Just pick the one that suits your OS, and in the case of
XP, the Service Pack version, and you should be good to go.}}}

Also be sure and uninstall what you installed first.

Also see this this KB Article for the Hot Fix from MS.

For what it's worth in windows update you may find it in software
updates.

Maybe look at sound under device manager to see if somethings buggy.
