Displaying desktop.ini on Desktop

Hi,

I've noticed that two Desktop.in files appear on the desktop when I choose to have hidden files displayed. Has this issue been discussed before?

TIA,
Axel Dahmen

Re: Displaying desktop.ini on Desktop

Previous versions of Windows used the DESKTOP.INI files but the were
filtered and not shown in certain areas such as Desktop, Start Menu,
Favorites and others. They were only visible in those areas if My Computer
or Windows Explorer was used. I think Vista should follow down the same
path.

Turn off show system files and they go away.

Re: Displaying desktop.ini on Desktop

They go away along with other system files. I may want to see the system
files in Windows Explorer but not on the desktop itself.

Re: Displaying desktop.ini on Desktop

I turned off my Sidebar. But I guess a small piece of electrical tape would
serve the same purpose.

I just sent it to the recycle bin. Didn't seem to make any difference
at all.

Re: Displaying desktop.ini on Desktop

Sorry for replying so late.. The answers didn't get through to my newsreader... strange...

I agree with John. System files should only appear in Windows Explorer but not on the Desktop or in the Start menu.

2003 Server R2 seems to have the same problem...

John's reply brings an interesting question to my mind: What happens to hidden links in the Start Menu folder when displayed through the Start menu.... Hmmm....

Regards,
Axel
